X-Flash #11 Aug 06

Welcome back ! The Xlab has been running at full speed all summer, but we are ready for the new academic year. Here’s what’s new:

New Xlab Director

Barbara Mellers, the Milton W. Terrill Professor of Business Administration, assumed the role of Xlab Director on July 1,following Prof. Terry Odean’s successful completion of his one-year term. Prof. Mellers is Co-PI on the NSF grant that created the Xlab and has conducted many experiments in the lab. Her research explores psychological models of decision making; effects of emotions on judgment and choice, and perceptions of fairness in groups and markets.

The Xlab is now two years old !

In April, the Xlab celebrated its second birthday. An article in the recent IBER Bulletin looks at how the Xlab has grown, with a total of 706 experimental sessions and over 7,800 subjects in its first two years. We also look at some of the recent discoveries based on research done in the lab.
The Xlab has a revised Master Protocol, including revised Consent Forms, by which we hope to make it easier for experimenters to gain approval from the Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects.

Plan Ahead!

A look at the schedule for August will show that there is a high demand for time in the Xlab. September is starting to fill up, too. Don’t leave it until the end of the semester to conduct your experiments—that’s the lab’s busiest time.
